UEFA Champions League quarter-final and semi-final draws

The eight remaining 2018/19 UEFA Champions League hopefuls can now plot their paths to the final after the quarter-final and semi-final draws were held in Nyon.

UEFA Champions League quarter-finals

9 & 17 April

UEFA Champions League semi-finals

The winner of semi-final 1 (Tottenham Hotspur / Manchester City v Ajax / Juventus) was drawn as the home team – for administrative purposes – for the final in Madrid.

Quarter-final draw facts

Ajax (NED) v Juventus (ITA)

  • A repeat of the 1996 final, won by the Italian club on penalties after a 1-1 draw in Rome.
  • Head-to-head in UEFA competition: 6 Juventus wins, 2 Ajax wins, 4 draws

Liverpool (ENG) v Porto (POR)

  • Liverpool overcame Porto 5-0 on aggregate in last season’s round of 16, all the goals coming in the first leg in Portugal – Sadio Mané scoring a hat-trick.

Tottenham (ENG) v Manchester City (ENG)

  • This is the first time Tottenham and Manchester City have locked horns in UEFA competition.
  • City were 1-0 winners away to Spurs in the Premier League on 29 October. The return game in Manchester is scheduled for 20 April.
  • There has been nothing between the sides in domestic football over the years. In 156 competitive meetings, City have won 61 to Spurs’ 60, with 35 draws

Barcelona (ESP) v Manchester United (ENG)

  • This tie has been switched, with the first leg at Old Trafford, because Manchester City and Manchester United are not able to play at home on the same night, nor on consecutive nights, following a decision made by the relevant local authorities.
  • Barcelona beat Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League final in both 2009 and 2011, Lionel Messi scoring in either game.
  • Barcelona and United have met in two other two-legged contests in UEFA competition; the English club overturned a 2-0 first-leg loss in Spain with a 3-0 Old Trafford victory in the 1983/84 European Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-finals, and beat Barcelona 1-0 on aggregate in the 2007/08 semi-finals.
