The Gaddafi Stadium has hosted six T20 internationals till date and out of the last four of those, three have been won by the side that has batted first. So there seems to be a toss bias here and whichever team wins it in this match will probably elect to bat first.
Except Dwayne Smith, Peshawar Zalmi will have most of their overseas players traveling to Pakistan for the knock-out stage of the tournament. The West Indian will be replaced by Bangladeshi ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan.
Kamran Akmal has scores of 75 and 107 not-out in his last two innings. The opening batsman is the season’s second-leading run-getter and a key figure in the team’s batting line-up. Shakib Al Hasan who has replaced Dwayne Smith in the side will play an important role with both bat and ball. Wahab Riaz will be leading the charge with the new ball. The paceman has been Peshawar’s best bowler this PSL and he will look to pick up a few early wickets.
Peshawar Zalmi have finished third on the points table with five wins and five losses from their ten league fixtures. They put an end to a three-match losing streak and are coming into this game having beaten Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars comprehensively in their previous two matches.
Peshawar Zalmi Predicted Playing 11
- Darren Sammy (c), Kamran Akmal (wk), Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz, Liam Dawson, Riki Wessels, Umaid Asif, Saad Nasim, Sameen Gul, Hasan Ali
Quetta Gladiators will miss the services of Kevin Pietersen, Shane Watson and Jason Roy who won’t be traveling to Pakistan due to security concerns. The team has roped in Johnson Charles, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera into their squad as replacements.
With Jason Roy, Shane Watson and Kevin Pietersen unavailable, Quetta’s batting will now rely on the likes of Johnson Charles, Sarfraz Ahmed and Rilee Rossouw. Charles is a dangerous batsman in this format of the game and it will be difficult to contain him once he gets going. Rahat Ali has taken 11 wickets in 10 matches (including two in the last game against Islamabad United) and he will be the main threat in the team’s pace attack. Mohammad Nawaz who has been very economical so far will be their best spin option.
Quetta Gladiators won five and lost as many matches to finish fourth in the standings at the end of the league stage. After winning three matches on the bounce, they have now faced defeats in their last two fixtures against Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United respectively.
Quetta Gladiators Predicted Playing 11
- Sarfraz Ahmed (c/wk), Thisara Perera, Johnson Charles, Anwar Ali, Umar Amin, Rilee Rossouw, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Rahat Ali, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Khan

Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators Head-to-Head
Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators have faced-off in eight matches in the Pakistan Super League with both winning four times each. The former lead the scoreline 3-2 in the previous five encounters. However, the Gladiators recorded a six-wicket win in the most recent clash between these two sides.
Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators Betting Odds
Peshawar Zalmi are the bookmakers’ favorites to win the first eliminator of the PSL 2018 at odds of 1.80 each on Williamhills. They are coming off back-to-back wins and will nearly be at full strength for this game with majority of their foreign contingent having agreed to play for the side in Pakistan. Quetta Gladiators on the other hand have been depleted due to the absence of their key overseas players in Watson, Roy and Pietersen which is why they begin as underdogs at odds of 2.14 on Williamhills
Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators Eliminator 1 Prediction
Quetta Gladiators are likely to be badly hit by the absence of several key players just as they were in the final of the 2017 PSL against the same opposition at this very venue. Peshawar Zalmi had won that contest convincingly by 58 runs and they will be fancying their chances once again against a depleted Gladiators side. Also, while the former have won their last two matches, the latter are coming on the back of two consecutive defeats. So Peshawar have the momentum on their side and we therefore predict them to knock Quetta out of the tournament.
Final Verdict: Back Peshawar Zalmi to beat Quetta Gladiators at 1.80 each on Williamhills
