India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha has been ruled out of the one-off Test against Afghanistan — starting June 14 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru — due to an injury on his right thumb.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has named Dinesh Karthik as his replacement.
The 33-year-old Saha, a Test regular, picked up the injury while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad — in the Qualifier 2 fixture of the Indian Premier League against Kolkata Knight Riders — on May 25.
Saha was under the observation of the BCCI medical staff and the management has decided to give him adequate rest before the start of the Test series in England.
He is expected to recover in five to six weeks.
The last time Karthik played a Test match was in 2010; against Bangladesh in Chittagong. But recently, in South Africa, he had filled in for an injured Parthiv Patel in the final session of the third Test at Johannesburg.
